Next time someone whom I don’t care what they think asks me what I did over the weekend, I’m going to say I dissected a penguin. I will let you know what their response is…

Ooooh, even better. I will do that the second time someone asks me because we know it happens over and over.

It’s so funny. Deep meaningful conversation is my love language. Meanwhile, I find peopling exhausting. I think you just explained me to myself.

I knew from your hilarious stories you'd be the same :)

Speaking as an introvert, I really like to get to know a person better. Much better!

The idle chit chat is endlessly boring. It’s so much more refreshing to make a new friend who also enjoys really conversing. 💕

It's hard work. All that eye contact and nodding when nothing is being said.

My favorite is people who ask "how are you?" when they don't mean it and then proceed in problem-solving for you if the answer is anything other than "great!"

My weekends are hell because I have no help for my severely disabled son and my husband and I are on nonstop shifts. I have told the people at my work many times that the weekends are extremely difficult for me and that I do not look forward to them. Still every weekend people say “are you doing anything fun this weekend? Have a great weekend! At least it’s the weekend!“ And then I return on Monday too “what did you do this weekend? Did you have a great weekend? Did you get some relaxing done this weekend?”

It kind of proves their not paying attention, doesn't it. So why do they even ask? 🤬

Eventually I just started saying “great” and moved on because i realized that’s what they wanted

It's actually really rude of them not to remember you're facing such a challenging situation.

At some point I wondered if they were doing it on purpose or were just really so self absorbed they never heard me

Each to their own as one might say (arse... arse.... arse... arse... that's 4 arses not that I'm keeping score!)

I'm quite introverted but actually enjoy the banal interactions you describe. It gives me chance to warm up a bit and then engage more meaningfully. But I enjoyed this short piece and love the 3 x arse references; which is the sign of good writing.

3 arse references! I didn't even realise! I'm jealous that you like the banal interactions, they drive me nuts.
